Butte County Sheriff's Office Announces New Evacuation Zone Map

In the fall of 2020, BCSO’s Emergency Managers began working with CAL FIRE, Butte County Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, creating Evacuation Zones for all of Butte County. These zones will be used during a fire or other emergency requiring evacuations in our county. It is important to remember the last three numbers of the zone, as every zone has a different number and no two are the same. For example, the BCSO substation in Magalia is located at 14166 Skyway. The zone is: BUT-MA-289. The BUT stands for Butte, the MA stands for Magalia and the 289 is the zone number.

ALERT FM Emergency Notification System

Butte County is partnering with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and ALERT FM to provide Alert FM devices to the community, and you may be eligible to receive a free ALERT FM receiver if you live in an identified Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) affected area with low or no cellular coverage.

ALERT FM is a device that receives mass notifications in times of crisis or emergency.  This device keeps citizens informed when the power, internet and/or cellular networks fail.

FREE devices are available on a FIRST COME, FIRST-SERVED basis for eligible households.  Once supplies have been exhausted you may request to be added to a waitlist.

Eligibility and Registration information is available here.

To learn more about ALERT FM you can visit https://www.alertfm.com

*** Please note that the shipment of Alert FM devices has been delayed due to distribution issues. The devices are expected to be shipped to households between April 18th and April 29th, 2022.

Preparing for Evacuation - Stay Prepared

Plan for Animal Evacuation

Before any type of emergency occurs, have a plan in place for evacuation of your animals. Research possible locations for you and your pets to go and keep an updated list of friends who live outside of the area that might be able to care for your animals.

Build a Go Bag!

A Go Bag contains items that should sustain you for 72 hours in the event of emergency or evacuation. Every member of your family should have their own Go Bag. Store your Go Bag where you feel it is most accessible if you have to leave your home or work with very short notice. Learn which items to include in your Go Bag and how to maintain your bag.

Make a Family Communication Plan Tonight

Being prepared for an emergency is always a good idea. Today, it is especially important. Your family may not be together if an the Evacuation Warning is upgraded to an Immediate Evacuation Order, so it is important to think develop a Family Community Plan. Use these resources from FEMA.
